TWICE 5th World Tour ‘Ready to Be’ Review: TWICE Takes Truist Park
TWICE, a South Korean girl group, used their eight years of music industry experience to prove that they can perform in any weather as they faced the extreme heat of the South followed by heavy rain at night. TWICE has returned to Atlanta, moving from arenas to stadiums to prove that they are READY TO BE the K-Pop Queens.
TWICE opened the show with their new single, Set Me Free, with the English version for their North American fans. They continued with more hard-hitting songs, including a powerful dance break in their song, Go Hard, which was added to this year’s setlist.
Fortunately for Atlanta fans, all of the members were present and each performed a solo, demonstrating TWICE’s ability to shine both as a group and as individuals. Dahyun was the first soloist, performing an emotional cover of Try by Colbie Caillat while also playing the piano. Tzuyu wore a classic all-white jumpsuit while performing Charlie Puth’s Done For Me, featuring Kehlani and Sana spiced things up with their fiery cover of Dua Lipa’s New Rules. Mina treated Ariana Grande fans like myself to her cover of break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored while wearing hot pink thigh-high boots. Momo paid tribute to Beyonce, who is also on tour, with a dance and pole routine to Move that had all the fans shocked.
The girls took a break from solo songs to perform an acapella version of Feel Special led by one of their main vocalists, Jihyo. Chaeyoung began the second half of the solo songs with a song she wrote on stage with her guitar and teddy bear that made all of the fans feel calmer and cooler in Atlanta’s humid heat. Jihyo, who will make her solo debut in August, teased a song from her album titled Nightmare, proving she is a force to be reckoned with. Jeongyeon appeared in a neon green outfit and a recorder to dedicate her performance to Juice by Lizzo, who also plays the flute. Nayeon concluded the solos with her own song, Pop, which she debuted as a soloist last June, and a fun, new dance break.
The K-Pop stars continued with their title medley, which included ONCES, the fandom name for TWICE fans, singing and dancing as they walked down memory lane from TWICE’s debut in 2015 to now.
Now came the moment that all fans had been waiting for: the dance cam, where ONCES could show off their skills to randomized TWICE songs and compete against other ONCES. The dancers in the pink hats, which have become a TWICE concert staple, definitely stole the show.
The rain began to fall as TWICE returned to perform their final song, When We Were Kids, which featured baby pictures of them, causing the group and fans to cry. TWICE brought out their Encore wheel from last year’s show, decked out with new songs, despite the rain and lightning. Fans received fireworks (ironically, fireworks were used at the start of the show), Celebrate (a Japanese single), and the infamous TT.
TWICE wrapped up their North American tour in Atlanta’s Truist Park, and hopefully, they’ll be back soon to put on another three-hour show.
