I MIGHT BE A RAGER: A TRAVIS SCOTT CONCERT REVIEW

With titans like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift dominating the stage, this year has proven to be a challenging one for aspiring standout performers in the concert realm. Despite this, Travis Scott manages to hold his own among these industry titans.

On December 1st and 2nd, the Utopia: Circus Maximus Tour graced the State Farm Arena for two sold-out and electrifying nights.

The show commenced with a futuristic touch, as a robot greeted the audience with a resounding “Greetings from Utopia.” A sea of ragers erupted into excitement as Travis opened with “Hyaena” from his latest studio album, “Utopia.” The visual spectacle was unparalleled, featuring a large dystopian set that oddly enough brought to mind the iconic 90s Nickelodeon TV show, Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Teezo Touchdown, the show’s opener, joined the stage during “Modern Jam.” Travis, known for pushing the envelope, traded the roller coaster from his Astroworld: Wish You Were Here Tour for a giant floating rock head parasail. Fans as young as 11 or 12 were harnessed in for a ride, creating memorable moments such as Kai Cenat’s Friday night experience and several lucky fans chosen by Travis on Saturday – destined to become viral TikTok moments.

The show’s dynamism was enhanced by fire cannons, strobe lights, smoke, and a giant monster head shooting lasers from its eyes. What about the other part? Travis’s energy. His ability to engage the audience without the use of additional dancers or stage companions left an indelible impression.

A surprise appearance by 21 Savage added to the excitement, as they performed “Topia Twins”. 21 then went on to perform “Rich Flex” from his collab album with Drake “Her Loss.” The crowd reached new heights pinnacle during “No Bystanders,” with the iconic chant “Fuck The Club Up” resonating throughout the arena. Despite Travis’s continuous yelling, screaming, and energetic stage presence, the crowd never died.

The best part of the show? Travis Scott took the stage for the extended outro of “Fein”. Travis didn’t just perform the full song; he brought it back, again and again. Eight times to be exact. With each repetition, the energy surged higher. As the crowd erupted into a frenzy, ragers couldn’t help but shout, “one more time, one more time.”

In those moments, the atmosphere transported you back to the beginning of “Fein” – the piercing electric guitar, the pulsating lights, and the explosive burst of fire from the canons. After the eighth and final rendition of “Fein,” I found myself jumping with such intensity that I could almost envision the electrifying mosh pit below. It was at that very moment I thought, perhaps I, too, might be a “rager.”

Closing the show with timeless hits such as “Antidote,” “Sicko Mode,” and “Goosebumps,” the arena reached its peak volume. Travis concluded with the seemingly calm choice of “Telekinesis,” providing a fitting end to two hours of non-stop energy and moshing.
